Blink, and you could miss it….

TYMHM BLOG - 5

This month’s GENRE theme is Victorian!

There is always so much going on! If you’re not careful, you could miss stuff. For example, this month’s GENRE theme is Victorian! Genre is one of those events that has been going on for a few years and has had a few spikes and dips, but the last couple of months have been amazing. Last month was Viking, and I forgot to tell you about it, or I had too much other stuff to talk about, or my work schedule got out of hand (likely), so I didn’t get around to that. This time around, I promised myself I’d talk about Genre. I also haven’t got a chance to talk very much about what’s happening at Hairology this month, so I want to show you three different outfits in this post. Don’t worry: I do have an epic story post coming, hopefully tomorrow! But tonight is all about Fa-fa-fa-fa-fashion!

This dress is Senzafine‘s Zenobia gown, and her textures are really striking, no matter what colour you choose. I can never choose, so I tend to fatpack her gowns, but that’s because I have a hard time with, you know, choices.

Here, you can see a glimpse of the bodice detailing.

Here, you can see the glimpse of the bodice detailing; I love the smocking on the front. The skin I’m wearing is another of the new offerings from 7 Deadly s{K}insIzara has really hit it out of the park for the SL Skin FairMaliThe skin is built around 7 Deadly s{K}ins’ new body appliers, and they are so easy to use. Mali is a Lelutka face applier. I kept Gwyneth a redhead for this post, because I love the red eyebrows on this skin. The freckles are also great.

Stealthic hair from Hairology!

The hair here is Stealthic, for Hairology, which closes in a few days. The hairlines and textures on Stealthic‘s hair have been impressing me since I first discovered them at the 2015 Hair Fair, and this is one of my favourites to date: Cadence. This is Lelutka’s new Cate Bento mesh head, which is a little softer than the Simone. The ears are Swallow‘s Elf Ears High Definition, the eyes are from Mesange: the Bering eyes are available for a few more days at We ❤ Roleplay. I found the Earthstones Velvet Rose Choker at The Liaison Collaborative.

Another great hair from Hairology!

This next outfit features another great hair from Hairology, Runaway’s Jasmin. The skin is another of 7 Deadly s{K}ins‘ releases for Skin FairWednesday. These are the same eyes from Mesange: I just loved the purple colour with this dress, and I kept the rose choker on her as well.

Beautiful furniture from Raindale adorns this set for the whole shoot.

Beautiful furniture from Raindale adorns this set for the whole shoot: these items are from the Birdside gacha. It was at the February Crossroads events, but you can find it at Raindale’s main store now. The gown is from BareRoseTasha in purple. The gown comes in sections, and it’s beautifully shaped. it comes with boots, but here Gwyneth is wearing the Harriet Booties from Wicca’s Wardrobe, which are also available at Genre, along with the dress.

No shoot featuring this dress would be complete without a picture of the amazing BOW.

No shoot featuring this dress would be complete without a picture of the amazing BOW. When I tried this dress on, the first thing I noticed was that I had a huge bow on mah butt! And I kind of love it!

Not everything at Genre is formal Victorian.

Not everything at this month’s Genre is formal Victorian: this is Poeme‘s Neo-Victorian in Damasque, here worn with some black legging appliers and the Wicca’s Wardrobe boots.

This is the new Catwa Lona head.

This is the new Catwa Lona head. One of my favourite styles from the March Hairology is from Iconic; this is Esme, and I’ve been wearing it around just casually for weeks now. This is a Lumae freckled applier for Catwa, Ella, also available at Skin Fair. The eyes are once again Mesange; these are the Capriccio Eyes, which you can get for a few more days at The Chapter 4. The necklace is from Empyrean ForgeBreccia.

So, yeah; not a lot of my usual scintillating content here, but do take a trip to Genre. You’ll be glad you did. And don’t forget to visit the Skin Fair before it closes!

No style cards for this post: everything’s in the text, and I’m kinda tired, and it’s Dyisi’s RL birthday, so I have to think of her right now. 🙂

Camping at Midsummer

Gwyneth Blog Header

Gwyneth:

Don’t ask me why I decided to go camping by myself at Midsummer. I could have gone to any number of festivals, any number of pagan moots in London, but no.

I borrowed my dad’s VW  caravan, this thing he’d modified like back in the 80s, and I drove up into Epping Forest, and I got as far back into the nowhere as I possibly could.

It must have been something about sleeping overnight in a cramped caravan the night before Midsummer, but the mist that morning really caught my imagination.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 3

There was a kind of ruined folly.

There was a kind of ruined folly about 200 yards from where I’d decided to set up camp, such as it was. And Josh kept texting me, which was super annoying, particularly when I was trying to set up a tripod and use my mobile to take photos of myself so you could also see the folly. I guess that just means life in the twenty-first century, or something.

I kept playing with the zoom on the phone lens, controlling the whole thing from my Apple Watch, and Josh kept texting, and it was really pissing me off.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 4

Despite all that, I managed to get a couple of good shots.

Despite all that, I managed to get a couple of good shots. And yet, when I got in to the folly itself, it somehow seemed wrong to take photographs there. I decided to stick to selfies, since that’s what my Facebook friends care about anyway, right?

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 2

Once the mist burned off, the day shaped up.

Once the mist burned off, the day shaped up to being the perfect Midsummer. I started second guessing myself: maybe I should just drive back to London and find an open ritual. Staying in the caravan for another night wasn’t all that appealing, to be honest. But the truth is, I had this dream where this voice kept telling me that I had to do it alone this year. Just me. My own ritual, my own balefire. My own moon, my own longest day.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 1

It felt like I spent most of the late morning staring into the sun.

It felt like I spent most of the late morning just staring into the sun. I know you’re not meant to do that. I do. Eventually, I got hot and made myself a picnic lunch and went off to look for usable ritual space. I brought all the usual stuff, but then I wasn’t sure I was going to need any of it. The woods were deeper beyond the folly, so I explored there first, picked a clearing, and started bring fire rocks from the caravan. That was the only time I actually missed Josh. Then again, he texted so often while I was carting rocks from the caravan to the clearing that I just about broke up with him, but then I thought better of it because somebody has to help me get rid of the rocks. Or maybe it wouldn’t be awful if I just left them here. These are the thoughts that go through my head. Weird I am.

I was going to meditate and get myself ready for the night’s ritual. But to be honest, I took a nap. Those rocks were heavy. So, yeah. I took a nap and I woke up in time to go and build the fire. I don’t think it’s wrong to do sausages over the balefire before the Midsummer ritual. Of course, it’s my ritual and my balefire, so fuck anybody who says it’s not OK to do sausages over a balefire before the Midsummer ritual.

It was nearly ten o’clock before it was dark, because, fuck. Longest day of the year and all.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 5

So I began invoking.

So I began invoking. I felt the fire rise higher as I called on the ancestors, the nature spirits, the gods.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 7

Working alone was so different.

Working alone was so different. There were bad things and good things about it. I mean, duh. Obviously there were bad things and good things about it. Bad: nobody to chant with, hold hands with, feel together with. Good: nobody to tell me what to do! No Wiccan telling me there’s something wrong with my cosmology. Yeah, because yours is perfect. omg.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 8

Something happened, though. Something really happened.

Something happened, though. Something really happened.

I was there, visualising the fire as the sun, the great initiator, and suddenly I felt a shiver in my body, and it was like, I don’t know, almost like, I left my body.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 6

And as if in an instant, I had a completely different life, all there in my head.

As as if in an instant, I had a completely different life, all there, in my head. As if it was a memory that had always been there.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 9

Somewhere around this time, I just pulled the bindings out of my hair.

Somewhere around this time, I just pulled the bindings out of my hair. It didn’t feel right for it to be back, not with this other life coursing through me.

And who was I? I was as I am now, a Sidhe of fine descent, only by some freak accident I was brought up in a world where there were purported to be no Sidhe, no Elves, no Trolls, no Dragons. No magic. My parents were academics, and I became an academic, and then one day I left that world and again, through a series of highly improbable coincidences, I became a Queen in Faerie. Imagine me, a Queen. Father would have a good laugh at that. Mother too, even if her sister actually is a Queen, it’s not like she consorts with the likes of us.

Hair Fair 2016 AD BLOG - 10

It was like a physical blow.

It was like a physical blow, these memories. Not mine, but the Sidhe in them was me. Another me. Could have been me. Might have been me. And now she lives in a world without mobile phones and the Internet and everything even remotely technological has to be accomplished with magic. I felt kind of sorry for her.

And I wouldn’t want to be her. Probably she doesn’t know (assuming she exists at all and this isn’t some bizarre hallucination brought on by the cheek of doing sausages over the balefire before the Midsummer ritual) I got all these memories in such a flash, but just in case she did, I tried to tell her to get out of this backwater Faerie she’s living in. Because fuck me: a girl deserves an iPhone, am I right?

I awoke in the Remembrance Garden.

I awoke in a plush bed in the Remembrance Garden. There wasn’t a bed here before. And I had the strangest dream.

Story notwithstanding, this is the first of a series of posts that will be showing you some of the coolest things at Hair Fair, which is now open! Both these hairstyles are from Analog Dog, because of course I am the world’s biggest Analog Dog Fan and so of course I had to show you two of Queue’s amazing styles before I move on to anybody else. Hair Fair only comes around once a year, and a percentage of everything sold there goes to benefit Wigs For Kids. It’s the best place on the grid to come and see great new hair. Don’t forget to join the demo group before you make your big shopping trip: that way you can pre-shop and choose what you want to buy before you make the trek. Hair Fair is four complete sims of hair, and it’s on until the 31st of July.

Hairology!

Gwyneth Blog Header

Gwyneth:

I’m still not feeling creative enough to work on the story-blogging, so you get two posts in a row that are mostly straight-up fashion blogs for me. Sorry about that, and I do promise to get back to the story blogging as soon as I can.

I’ve been blogging Hairology for a few months now, because it’s one of my favourite events. This would be because I’m a complete SL hair addict (I hear my friends going, “No!”). This month, Hairology gave the designers a month to rest, because Hair Fair is just around the corner (OH YES!), so the Hairology designers have put some of their favourite styles out at a discount this month. So there’s great hair there at discounts of between 25 and 50%, not to mention many of the creators have little cakes in front of their stalls, which contain (YES!) free hair! There’s so much good stuff at this event I can’t possibly show you all of it, so I’ve picked just six styles to highlight.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 2

First up, Wasabi Pills!

First up, Wasabi Pills! Wasabi Pills has been a staple of Second Life hair since I started coming back to SL to role-play about five years ago, and I used to pretty much live in Wasabi Pills hair. This is one of my favourite styles she’s done in some time, and it’s called Ocean. It’s available at Hairology for 50% off for the duration of the event. Now, because I can never highlight just one thing, I’m also playing with some different skins in this post, and of course I’ll tell you all about the clothes as well. I’ve also indulged in a little SL tourism in this post, so I hope you’ll enjoy the great photo locations and maybe  visit a few of them yourself.Gwyneth is wearing a Glam Affair skin here; I picked up the Viktoria Catwa applier at this month’s Collabor88, and of course the Maitreya body is loaded with Glam Affair skins, so I didn’t have to worry about body appliers for this one. I wanted to keep all the skins in the same shade range that Gwyneth normally wears: as a Sidhe, she is naturally pale but healthy looking; this is tone “Europa”. The dress is from Tres Blah; it was in the May Luxe Box. Body is Maitreya, Head is Catwa Helena, eyes are Soul Sidhe Eyes, ears are BentBox Sylvan Ears.

This location is The Yorkshire Dales.

This location is The Yorkshire Dales. It’s in the SL Destination Guide Editor’s Picks at the moment, and it’s well worth a visit. The poses here are from the Bauhaus Movement Luna Beam series, which I picked up at this month’s Liaison Collaborative.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 12

And here we have hair from Phoenix!

And here we have hair from Phoenix! The style is called Kathy, and it’s 25% off at Hairology this month. The skin here is one I’ve already showcased in the last blog entry, but it’s worth an extra mention: it’s 7 Deadly s[K]ins Leslie head applier in new colourway Sand. The crown is the Kibitz Mynerva Circlet, and the necklace is Serena Teardropby Maxi Gossamer.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 11

The dress Gwyneth is wearing here is very special.

The dress Gwyneth is wearing here is very special. It’s the Callista Rain Wedding Gown Set from Silvan Moon Designs. Who are Silvan Moon Designs, you ask? They’re a collaboration between The White Armory and Blue Moon Enterprises, and as you can see, this style is just stunning. It comes in a variety of colours and has that amazing flowing-but-fitted look that Bee Dumpling manages to put across with so many of her designs for The White Armory. Body is Maitreya, Head is Catwa Helena, eyes are Soul Sidhe Eyes, ears are BentBox Sylvan Ears. The first pose is from !bang, number 562. The second one is again from Bauhaus Movement’s Luna Beam series. The location is The Balladwood, which is part of my sim.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 7

Mina Hair always has something to offer

Mina hair always has something to offer; this style is Juliet, available at Hairology for 50% off this month. Mina’s textures are so lush! I wanted to take Gwyneth somewhere hot to shoot this photograph, so I picked New Brighton Beach Pier, which is one of those places that’s been around in Second Life for ages and still manages to be a fun location to visit and great for photography. You can even rez stuff there, so it’s easy to get your poses exactly the way you want them to be. The clothes are from the current round of Cosmopolitan: they’re from Asteria, part of a mix-and-match collection of sleeveless blouses and short-short skirts called Taylor. The shoes are Empire, the Erica flats from the most recent Enchantment round. Body is Maitreya, Head is Catwa Helena, eyes are Soul Sidhe Eyes, ears are BentBox Sylvan Ears.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 8

Here’s a closer shot of this beautiful Mina hair.

Here’s a closer shot of this beautiful Mina hair. The skin in these photos is from LeForme, and it’s my first LeForme skin. Well, second, really. See, I liked the LeForme skin that was on sale at this month’s We ❤ RP, but it was too dark and freckled for Gwyneth, so I went to their main store and picked up this one as well, Luna, in their Pale shade. I about tripped myself up looking for body appliers in their main store before I realised they were all right there in the skin package! Both these poses are from the An Lar Kildare series.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 3

Pr!tty!

Pr!tty! I travelled back to White Owl Island for these next two photographs. White Owl isn’t ready to open yet, but we have kitted out the book store, as you can see! Now, I don’t buy a lot of Pr!tty hair, mostly because the styles are a bit too sleek for Gwyneth. But this style, NaviI think I first bought at The Chapter 4 a while ago, and I love it—and not just for the sparkly headband that comes with it! It’s at Hairology for 25% off, so I fatpacked it since I only had one colour previously. Because, you know. One day I might want pink ombre hair. (What? I really might! Stop looking at me like that!) Are these jeans not amazing, by the way? They’re from Purple Moon, and they’re at this month’s On9 event. The shirt is from The Vintage Fair, which really must visit if you haven’t yet; it’s made by Gawk, the Anthracite Favourite Sloppy Sweater. I picked it up because ICly, Gwyneth is originally from London and she feels a bit nostalgic about it from time to time. These shoes are Reign‘s Kiko Flats from this month’s FaMeshed. The base remains the same: Body is Maitreya, Head is Catwa Helena, eyes are Soul Sidhe Eyes, ears are BentBox Sylvan Ears.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 4

Still Pr!tty!

Still Pr!tty In this photo, you can see the light-uppy headband better. Gwyneth loves crowns, being a Queen, and she also loves things that light up, being Gwyneth, so those two things stuck together make her a very happy Fae Queen. This skin is from The Skinnery, another kind of skin I’ve not worn in ages. I really liked the Magali Catwa applier (in tone Milk) they had at Collabor88, though, so I took the plunge and invested. And, boo-yah! When I went to the Skinnery main store to pick up body appliers, I found that they make appliers for my beloved BentBox ears! Happy, happy day! These poses are from the InMotion Summertime set, which is available at this month’s round of The Instruments.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 5

Mithril Apothecary’s Taproot

Next, we move from White Owl to Everlong. I know I’ve shot in Everlong before, but I think a few things have changed since I’ve been there. I discovered this fun stage, and I liked the sentiment expressed on the white board, even if it is an old General Foods’ International Coffee slogan. I also love anything that has to do with swans. Anyway, Taproot is another hair I’d bought in only one colour previously, but the 50% off price at Hairology enabled me to buy the fatpack! The clothes are the Spirit Sianna Jeans and Shirt, available at this month’s Collabor88. The shoes are also available at Collabor88: they’re the Schadenfreude Flannery Loafers. As always, Body is Maitreya, Head is Catwa Helena, eyes are Soul Sidhe Eyes, ears are BentBox Sylvan Ears. This and the pose in the photo that follow are both from the An Lar Hollow series.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 6

More Taproot

Here, you can see the texture on the Mithril Apothecary Taproot hair a bit better. The necklace Gwyneth is wearing is the Bellona Necklace from a Tia gacha, though I couldn’t tell you which event I got it from. As for the skin, it’s from DeeTaleZ. I have long been a fan of DeeTaleZ skins; this is one of their recent Catwa faces, Fable, in their lightest shade, Celtic.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 10

And finally, No Match

And finally, here is No Match‘s No Answer, which is at 25% off for Hairology. Once again, the clothes come from Collabor88: the Addams Rocker Zipper Jeans and Tina Classic Shirt and Bra. Gwyneth’s basic construction remains the same: Body is Maitreya, Head is Catwa Helena, eyes are Soul Sidhe Eyes, ears are BentBox Sylvan Ears. Now, this location is a place I just found out about today through Ziki Questi’s BlogThe Gates of Melancholy. You have got to visit this place. It’s stunning. Designed after the paintings of Andrew Wyeth, I could not get enough of this sim. In fact, if I hadn’t already shot all those photos in other locations and this had been my first location, I would almost certainly have shot the whole set in The Gates of Melancholy. But I’m too lazy to reshoot ten photographs, so you get The Gates of Melancholy as a sort of “last but not least”, even though that might be a cliché. Might be. Anyway, not since I discovered Windwept have I been so utterly enamoured of a SL location, and you can bet I’ll be back here to shoot some more. In fact, I can almost feel a story coming on, just looking at this place. And isn’t that what the best places in SL do, anyway? They inspire us. They make us want to create, ourselves.

Hairology 6.2016 BLOG - 9

Now for a closer look at Gwyneth at The Gates of Melancholy

Now for a closer look at Gwyneth at The Gates of Melancholy. This time, the skin is one anybody who reads my blog (all two of you! Thanks!) will find very familiar: it’s Lumae’s Eirtae, in her lightest Tone 1Lumiya Rae also makes appliers for my beloved BentBox Sylvan Ears, which is only one of the many reasons why I love her and her skins and why I’m so proud to be a Lumae blogger. I’m really chuffed to say that just today, she updated this skin. Of course, I’d already taken these photographs, and we know from above that I just can’t be bothered to go back and reshoot photos. However, the next time you see Gwyneth in Eirtae, it’ll certainly be the updated and repainted version! By the way, if you own the Bare  version of Eirtae and you haven’t received an update yet, Lumiya says there are thousands to be sent out and you might get them quicker by popping by the Lumae Main Store and hitting the redelivery terminal there.

So just to wrap up, this month’s Hairology  is worth a visit for so many reasons, not just these six. There are so many more great discounted hairstyles waiting for you there, not to mention the freebies inside the cake pieces! And don’t forget that the most exciting thing about all this is the reason why Hairology is offering discounted hair this month: the designers are being given time to prepare their wares for Hair Fair, which opens on the 16th of July! I can’t wait!

No Style Cards today; they’re all embedded in the text.

I’m making a concerted effort to credit the great pose creators whose work I use in my blog posts. I haven’t been doing that, mostly because I use an Ani-Mate Pose Hud most of the time, and so I cycle through poses very quickly. From here on out, I’m going to try and make sure all poses are credited, not only so that folks know where they might find them, but so I myself can remember which ones I used!

Spiffy photos taken with the indispensible aid of my LumiPro. I never ramble for hours about hair and skins without it!

Fallen Gods and Faida Dresses from The Epiphany Event!

Gwyneth:

Gwyneth:

The Epiphany Event bills itself as “a new kind of gacha event,” and it certainly is. The literature is a little bit confusing, but essentially, the concept is this:

You go to a gacha event, and you spend loads of money. You get two things you really want, and 25 things you don’t really want. Now you have a bunch of stuff you don’t want clogging up your inventory. You could sell them or give them away to friends, but there will always be a few items you can’t get rid of, but you paid good money for these items, and there they are in your inventory, and your inventory is going to eat you. At The Epiphany, you can take all the items home, rez them, and then you get a choice of keeping them or redeeming them for points. The points enable you to buy special exclusive items made by the content creators who have made things for the event. So for example, you get 25 items you don’t want, and these you can turn into points for one exclusive copy-only item that you’ll never be able to get anywhere else, ever again. What a great deal, and a great way to get rid of extra gacha items you don’t want! For 200 points, you can get a transfer item, which you can give to somebody else. But I am a selfish girl, so I only got copy items, because I am a grabby grabber!

Reveur Nuit Beige

Nuit Reveur Beige

Because there are so many colours of this dress, I’m going to present them in alphabetical order, and I’ll do a combined style card at the end. As always, the Fallen Gods/Faida collaboration creates a garment that’s easy to wear, exquisitely detailed, and textured so beautifully. If you wanted to, you could collect this whole line and not have to wear anything else for months, because the combinations (which we’ll get to in a minute) are endless.

Nuit Reveur Black

Nuit Reveur Brown

I remember mentioning once in a blog post featuring Evie’s Closet that she can make even brown look good! The same is definitely true for the FG/Faida collaboration: just look at how the gold detailing contrasts with the brown of this dress. I love it.

Nuit Reveur Black

Nuit Reveur Black

Nuit Reveur Green

Nuit Reveur Green

Nuit Reveur Jade

Nuit Reveur Jade

Now, Gwyneth doesn’t wear a lot of black, or really even a lot of green. But I think I’ll have her in these dresses, because as I said above you could make a whole wardrobe out of these dresses. I am well known in my roleplaying group for saying, “Let me just get her dressed,” and then an hour later, Gwyneth finally looks the way I want her to look for that night’s rp. I think I now have what I think of as a ‘base dress’ for Gwyneth, and it’s definitely one of these, in any colour of the rainbow!

Nuit Reveur Mustard

Nuit Reveur Mustard

I love this ‘mustard’ colour: it has such a lovely gold tone, and the detailing on the overskirt really works, even though the colours are similar.

Nuit Reveur Pink

Nuit Reveur Pink

One thing Gwyneth does wear a lot of is pink. This dress is going to get a lot of use!

Nuit Reveur Azure

Nuit Reveur Azure

Slightly out of alphabetical order (because I’m going from the gacha key and it’s presented large and on the right) is this dusty blue ‘azure’. Again, the gold detailing on the overdress works so beautifully with this colour. And because Gwyneth’s court colours are blue and gold, this is a good every day sort of admin dress for when she has to negotiate with nasty Unseelie Lords & Such. 😉

Nuit Reveur Purple

Nuit Reveur Purple

Is there anybody out there who doesn’t like purple? Actually, don’t tell me. That’s like saying you don’t like The Princess Bride or you thought Harry Potter was just for children.

Nuit Reveur Red

Nuit Reveur Red

This subtle red is not at all what I was expecting! In fact, it’s the colour I managed to lose somehow before I started photographing these dresses. So I had to go back to The Epiphany and buy like 700 dresses (not really, but a lot!) before I finally got a red one so I could have a complete collection. I might be a bit … OCD about all this. 😉

Nuit Reveur Rose

Nuit Reveur Rose

This deep salmon-y rose colour is again not at all what I was expecting. Yes, I know, but you see the photo and you’re never sure how exactly it’s going to look on your avatar, even if you have a good eye for colour. In the end, I love that all the main colours are sort of subdued and subtle. There’s so much you can do with these dark colours—and just wait til you see some of the photos below!

Nuit Reveur Royale

Nuit Reveur Royale

The FG/Faida Royale is a favourite of mine. Whenever I buy one of their dresses, if I don’t have the money for the fatpack (and usually I find it!) the Royale is the colour I’ll buy first. It’s a favourite both of mine and of Gwyneth’s, and this one particularly, with the gold detailing, works perfectly for a rp dress.

Nuit Reveur Silver

Nuit Reveur Silver

Again, a subtle and beautifully rendered colour, against which the gold detailing works perfectly. Yum!

Nuit Reveur White

Nuit Reveur Teal

And this dark teal surprised me again by being a perfect foil to Gwyneth’s skin. So beautiful.

Nuit Reveur White

Nuit Reveur White

And at last, here is the white one. Gwyneth does wear a lot of white, and this is going in to her regular wardrobe as we speak.

All in all, there are fifteen colours, and these are the commons. You could go to this gacha, spend your last $L75, and you’re going to come away with a gorgeous dress you’ll probably wear forever.

Quality wise, these dresses work beautifully over the Maitreya mesh body, which is how they’re pictured above. I didn’t try them with the SLink or the EVE, but experimentation is good, and I think this dress is going to work over just about anything.

Basic Style Cards for Dresses Above:
The dress of course is all the colours of Nuit Reveur, from Fallen Gods and Faida, available at The Epiphany. Gwyneth is also wearing a necklace and tiara from Le Forme, also at The Epiphany. The skin is Fallen Gods Pure Eden, which I got at the Wayward Carnival, the hair is Analog Dog (natch!), from Hair Fair, and the foot jewellery is Pearls of the Muse, from a Tales of Fantasy event yonks ago. Gwyneth is standing in The Looking Glass‘ stunning Enchanted Ballroom, and the furniture you can see in some of the pics is from Ionic, the Lothlorian Table, Chair and Stool. Some of the photographs have visible little moons and stars above, and this is part of the Nightly Netting, from Refined Wild. Gwyneth is wearing the Maitreya mesh body and SLink hands and feet.

Now… imagine what you could do if you combined some of these dresses, because I haven’t told you the best part yet!

Each common dress comes with a HUD like this one.

Each common dress comes with a HUD like this one. so you can wear two or even three dresses at once and make layers transparent or hide them altogether. Below are some of the combinations I tried. But you can go mad, I tell you! MAD with colour mixing and combinations of this gorgeous dress.

There are so many possibilities!

And… we haven’t even got to the rares and exclusives yet!

Rares

When I started this blog entry, I thought I’d make it into a big story about how Gwyneth found this amazing dress. But the fact is, there are so many dresses I couldn’t find the time to blog them all this way, and for that I’m a little sorry. But RL is going to hit me big time tomorrow (major surgery!), and I had guests last weekend, so I’m working against the clock to get this and a couple more blog posts out because my week is about to go crazy.

Anyway, Rares. These are the Jour Reveur dresses, presented in doux and intense colours, and each rare comes with three different colours, which you can mix and match.

Jeux Reveur Azure

Jeux Reveur Azure

Some of these photographs are from the story I was thinking of building, so you can see that here Gwyneth is holding a pomegranate. The jewellery is also quite different for each photo, as is the hair. Here, she’s wearing EMO-tions lovely Cersei hair, which I found at The Instruments last month. The jewellery is from The Plastik, finds from the Fantasy Faire back in May. Foot jewellery is the same.

Jour Reveur Beige

Jour Reveur Beige

This is the Beige colour. Jewellery is from Cae (Guinevere Necklace) and the circlet is from Deviance, the Erulisse circlet in Princess (rare). It’s from the second Fantasy Gacha Carnival I visited, can’t remember how long ago. The hair is Analog Dog (Natch!); it’s the Enja updo.

Jour Reveur Rose

Jour Reveur Rose

Azure, Beige and Rose are the three colours of the doux rare. Jewellery and hair here is the same as above, but you can see the ring, which is from JCNY.

And of course, colour-mixing is possible with these as with the commons!

Jour Reveur Beige and Rose

Jour Reveur Beige and Rose

One jewellery change: This is the Deviance circlet from that long-ago Fantasy Gacha Carnival, Priestess.

The intense colourway is going to be a favourite, because I love intense, saturated colours.

Jour Reveur Royale, with Bliensen and Maitai rare and exclusive

Jour Reveur Royale, with Lassitude and Ennui rare and exclusive

A hair and jewellery change here; the hair is Analog Dog (natch!) The staff is one of the rares from Lassitude and Ennui, the Staff of Light. The crown is the exclusive from Lassitude and Ennui—both of these things are available at The Epiphany.

Jour Reveur Jade

Jour Reveur Jade

Hair on this one is Analog Dog (natch!) Megan.

Jour Reveur Red

Jour Reveur Red

Here is the Red one, with the Le Forme tiara and necklace, and the Analog Dog (natch!) Molly hair from Hair Fair.

And you can switch these up as well!

Jour Reveur, Royale and Black

Jour Reveur, Royale and Black

Again with the Deviance circlet and the Le Forme necklace.

Jour Reveur, Rose and Red

Jour Reveur, Rose and Red

This hair is Analog Dog (natch!) Fiona. The crown is from NSP Floral, one of the Guinevere crowns. Necklace is from EMO-tions.

Detail of Jour Reveur Royale, with a closer look at the Lassitude and Ennui crown.

Detail of Jour Reveur Royale, with a closer look at the Lassitude and Ennui crown.

Hair is again Analog Dog (natch!) from Hair Fair, and the necklace is from EMO-tions.

And OMG THE EXCLUSIVES!

Fallen Gods and Faida made two gorgeous Exclusives for The Epiphany; they created black and white versions of the Jour dress, called Angelique and Diabolique.

Angelique

Diabolique

Diabolique

And by now, you can imagine the mixing and matching possible!

Well, wow. I’m exhausted, and you probably are too, but  hope you aren’t too exhausted to head off to The Epiphany and get some of these gorgeous dresses.

A Chat With My Daughter….

Gwyneth:

Gwyneth:

Talk about something that feels weird to say! Yesterday for once, I wasn’t completely caught up with meetings and suchlike, so I made a cup of tea and spent some time talking with Drysi.

It’s so funny: Drysi was the dark crystal. I thought we’d be at odds from day one. And maybe we will be at odds, eventually, but so far she’s shown herself to be a damn sight more responsible than her brother (more on that later!) and a hell of a lot more down to earth (literally and figuratively speaking!) than her sister.

She's just in the background here.

She’s just in the background here.

She’s just in the background here, but I will get her closer up sometime soon. Even so new out of the crystal, she’s acquired her own style—they all have, I guess—and, I don’t know. She reminds me of myself, even though I felt that dark side pulling at her and I know she is more her father’s child than mine. I remember feeling so odd when I checked on her crystal sometimes, like there was a shadow over it. It worried me.

That said, we had a good conversation. We talked about how much we both liked the scrying pool, though she didn’t know it was called that (or what scrying was, actually; had to define that one for her). She wondered if we could go back together sometime when there weren’t scary horse creatures there, and I allowed that we could. (Note: I really will tell you all this story at some point; suffice it to say that my son is apparently an idiot and he has a date with a Kelpie one year and a day from last Sunday.)

She wanted to know about books with stories in them, and I pointed her to the right shelf upstairs in the library. And then, of course, I recalled that I had to take Wulfrich to the place where the Kelpie had taken her and Eilian the other night, and it had to happen before sundown: given the current political climate none of us want to be in the Unseelie Lands much during the dark hours. I felt bad, just having a cup of tea and leaving her there. But Bran will take care of things. He is so capable. Sometimes I think he’d make a better Queen then I do, and to be honest, he might look just as good in many of my gowns. 😉

There's something to be said about slinky casual, I think.

There’s something to be said about slinky casual, I think.

There’s something to be said about slinky casual, I think. No big skirts to get in the way. This dress feels almost like a dressing gown, but it looks like I’m on my way to a party. Which I think is how a Fae Queen should look most of the time.

Wulfrich, the big softie, was openly appreciative of the dress. I think sometimes he feels as proprietary about me as any of the other important men in my life; it’s just that his days are filled with different sorts of battles than mine are.

He brought half a dozen of my Knights with him, and they scouted all round the perimeter of the area. It’s a beautiful place, the lair of this half-Kelpie, half-Incubus. I sensed his demon side when we were in close enough proximity, and of course that fed in to why I made the deal with him that I did. Of course he ended up thinking he’d won a victory, but as far as I’m concerned all my creatures (and they are all my creatures) deserve to live their lives in whatever way works best for them.

That’s how I feel about all my creatures, even the ones who might mean me harm. They’re unlikely to end my life, and if I’m foolish enough to put myself into a situation where I must bargain with them, then that’s my responsibility.

Just Like Camp….

The Gypsy Davey:

The Gypsy Davey:

I dreamed I was in a yellow river, surrounded by glowing trees and the oddest assortment of detritus. I was up to my knees nearly in water, grateful and happy that my boots are water-resistant– got them at an outdoor shop when we were in some version or other of Boston a couple of months ago, and they’re so comfortable I don’t want to take them off.

A dream of water.

A dream of water.

It was one of those dreams it seemed hard to wake up from, and as well it was a dream in which I seemed awake. Lucid dream, I think that’s what it’s called. I couldn’t understand why I was slogging through all this water, and I willed myself to wake up.

When I came to, I was standing in a forest.

When I came to, I was standing in a forest.

When I came to, I was standing in a forest, completely alone. There was no sound save for the wind through the trees. I was fully dressed, and there was no sign of the vardo or the boys or the vineyard we’ve been working in for these last few weeks. What happened?

When I explored further into the woods, I found a camp site.

When I explored further into the woods, I found a camp site.

When I explored further into the woods, I found a camp site, recently used, with a fire all set up. Surely there must be someone here. Yet, when I explored the wood, I could find no one. Not a trace of men, though deer and boar seemed to be common. Rabbits, too: at least if I were stuck here for longer than a few days, I’d have a way to eat. I even found a water source; there was a spring a few hundred yards away from the fire site. Personally, I’d have made camp closer to the spring, but I wasn’t willing to move the whole camp just to prove the point.

So, unless there was trouble, I could comfortably stay here for some time.

So, unless there was trouble, I could comfortably stay here for some time.

So, unless there was trouble, I could comfortably stay here for some time. For some values of “comfortably”. There was a cache of blankets tucked away in a box near one of the logs round the fire, so bedding would be no problem, but I had only the clothes on my back and a little knife. Pity I wouldn’t be able to catch and kill a boar with just a knife; I quite fancy pork.

A lovely set of sims, even though it has some commercial buildings on it. I loved this watery landscape.
King’s Landing
A gorgeous RP sim set as you might imagine around the works of G.R.R. Martin. I saw some photos of it the other day, so I hopped over there and popped on an OOC tag to explore. The place was full of role-players, which is great for them but not so much fun if you need to use photo lights and stuff, so I found what appeared to be a quiet part of the sim where the was a nice, dense forest, and I set the story there.

What I Did After My Summer Holiday, by The Amazing Catwoman

The Amazing Catwoman:

The Amazing Catwoman:

Well, first of all, those fuckers in New Brighton fired me after one night on the job without so much as a “fuck you very much, TAC.” Fucking vamps. I mean, at least you’d think a crowd like that would be up to date on whether or not women could be badasses, but no; I was too small, not intimidating enough, why on earth would anybody hire a little girl like me as a bouncer, blah, blah, blah, she’ll be somebody’s ghoul by tomorrow midnight, blah-ti-blah. Fuck you, vampires of New Brighton.

So they sent me to Ironwood Hills, because there was apparently a ghost problem.

So they sent me to Ironwood Hills, because there was apparently a ghost problem.

So they sent me to Ironwood Hills, because there was apparently a ghost problem. I mean, seriously. Ghosts? Fine, fine, fine. I loaded up with anti-ghost herbs and took the notes from the fixer. It was a weird realm jump: I materialised outside a fucking cemetery over a sewer drain, and the steam was godawful. Well, fine. I’m not one to be a complete idiot, as I’m sure you know by now, so instead of heading immediately into the cemetery, I got suited up, then made my way into town to find out what was going on from the locals.

Town, wouldn't you know it, was deserted.

Town, wouldn’t you know it, was deserted.

Town, wouldn’t you know it, was deserted. It was a ghost town. (See what I did there?) So I sat on the steps with an abandoned teddy bear and planned my next move.

As it turned out, most of the houses were boarded up: this one even had the word HAUNTED on it in big letters.

As it turned out, most of the houses were boarded up: this one even had the word HAUNTED on it in big letters.

As it turned out, most of the houses were boarded up: this one even had the word HAUNTED on it in big letters. Of course, everything was fine until I actually did hear a loud moaning sound coming from…. well, from everywhere, really.

I took off at a run to see what there was to see in the rest of the town.

I took off at a run to see what there was to see in the rest of the town.

I took off at a run to see what there was to see in the rest of the town.

These things always have a source. That moaning continued, though, from just fucking everywhere. It was unnerving. It would stop, then start again, like a crazy sentient wind. Once I got further into town, I noticed signs for a carnival. Oh, great. Carnivals are hotbeds for weirdness, so I figured it’d be worth checking out as a possible source of the trouble.

When I got to the carnival site, I was gobsmacked.

When I got to the carnival site, I was gobsmacked.

When I got to the carnival site, I was gobsmacked. It was half full of water, there were crows everyfuckingwhere, all this stuff looked like it had been dilapidated for decades, as did the rest of the town, really, and you don’t even want to know about the creepy dolls: those little things are seriously unnerving.

Then, a freaky thing happened: a rift opened in the sky, I kid you not. And I fucking froze. My heart rate went up, there was a pounding in my head and my ears rang and all my nerves started to tingle, and I knew, just knew, that I had to get away from there, and fast. Fuck my fee, fuck the job: there was no saving Ironwood Hills. As a realm, it is a goner, there is nobody here except creepy dolls and a strange brigade of little children playing in the refuse, and just forget the whole thing, I was running. Out of there. Fast.

Then, everything went dark.

Then, everything went dark.

Then, everything went dark. Only I was still frozen in place. Fucking paralysed. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before; what the fucking fuck. I know, I know, I’m cursing too much. Blame her: She made me a potty mouth.

Dizzy, dizzy, dizzy, and then blackness.

And I woke up on a fucking beach.

And I woke up on a fucking beach.

And I woke up on a fucking beach. On a beautiful day. With my heart still pounding. I wasn’t wearing my same clothes, and something had gone crazy with my hair, and there was one of those floaty planes—what are those things called, anyway—over the sea.

When I looked in the other direction, sharks. I started to get dizzy again.

When I looked in the other direction, sharks. I started to get dizzy again.

When I looked in the other direction, sharks. I started to get dizzy again. Great. This was just fucking great.

Then I remembered an old trick the Gypsy Davey taught me, and I reached for my shadow.

Then I remembered an old trick the Gypsy Davey taught me, and I reached for my shadow.

Then I remembered an old trick the Gypsy Davey taught me, and I reached for my shadow. Take me, take me, out of this place. Take me away, lady goddess.

Then, with dizziness and bonus nausea, not to mention a feeling of constriction everywhere, I found myself in some kind of mediaeval castle.

Then, with dizziness and bonus nausea, not to mention a feeling of constriction everywhere, I found myself in some kind of mediaeval castle.

Then, with dizziness and bonus nausea, not to mention a feeling of constriction everywhere, I found myself in some kind of mediaeval castle. There were lutes playing. Servants quietly scurried around with their eyes on the floor. Nobody remarked on my sudden appearance: they just all said, “My Lady” whenever I passed them. “My Lady” would like a fucking dirty martini with extra olive juice, thank you very much.

I did not much like this world.

I did not much like this world.

I did not much like this world. It seemed to me that if this was some alternate life for me, I would be a very bored “Lady”. And half a dozen people explained to me that the purple of my dress complimented the red of my hair, which had been bound up in some admittedly impressive braid thing. The one thing I’d have loved to take away from this existence, which frankly reminded me all too much of her, was the necklace I found around my neck when I materialised. Such a beautiful thing. Perhaps I’ll see if… no. I am not taking any more favours from her than I have to. And why was I here, anyway? What possible impulse could have lead my shadow to bring me to such a place, unless it was just looking for something as far away as possible from a beach? I did note, when I looked out this window, that we were absurdly high, on some impossible peak. The castle seemed accessible only by a bridge that it would have been impossible to cross even on horseback. I did not waste much time wondering how supplies got in: enough of the servants were sporting pointy ears for me to imagine this must be some sort of an elfin or faerie kingdom. Still, it was terrifying to be on a beach one minute and then trussed up in a corseted dress the next. Ugh. I reached for my shadow again.

OMG, that day was so horrible.

OMG, that day was so horrible.

OMG, this day is so horrible. Late night / early morning mist, and my dad shouting from the doorway and my mum looking out the kitchen window and crying, but fuck them. Rusty and I are going to Cornwall to surf and live a life like God intended people to live, free and not tied down to stupid parents.

And my dad yelling,

And my dad yelling, “I knew that little arse was trouble from the first time he came driving up here in that hippie van!”

And my dad yelling, “I knew that little arse was trouble from the first time he came driving up here in that hippie van!” And the fight going on and on and the mist burning off and Rusty just lying down to sleep in the back of the VW because he didn’t want to deal with my parents, and me fighting my way into the house again to grab a few things: I mean, how is a girl meant to survive without an iPhone, anyway?

And my dad stormed out of the house to work, and my mum just stood there crying, and all of a sudden all I could think of was being a little girl again.

And my dad stormed out of the house to work, and my mum just stood there crying, and all of a sudden all I could think of was being a little girl again.

And my dad storms out of the house to work, and my mum just stands there crying, and all of a sudden all I can think of is being a little girl again.

And I’m overwhelmed by this sense of loss, and Rusty finally gets fed up with waiting and starts the engine, and so I turn to get in…

And everything starts spinning.

And everything starts spinning.

And everything starts spinning, and nothing makes sense, and I see stars and have to grab for the van’s open window so I won’t fall over….

And then I find myself jerked abruptly away, and that life spins in tatters away from me.

And then I find myself jerked abruptly away, and that life spins in tatters away from me.

And then I find myself jerked abruptly away, and that life spins in tatters away from me. I land with a thump on her fucking altar, in the middle of the Great Seelie Forest, surrounded by giggling demifae and gossipy little will o’ the wisps, and it’s late morning and I’m stark fucking naked, not that it matters here, but what the fuck just happened to me?

I stretch and try to stand.

I stretch and try to stand.

I stretch and try to stand. “Don’t do that, Tacey,” says Clutie—you’d guess she’d be around, it being her domain and all. “You’ve had quite a shock. We’ll get a healer to you soon as we can: we think you’ve had a panic attack and spun yourself round several realms on your way back home.”

“This is not my home,” I snap, and it’s “Tac, not Tacey.” I fucking hate that name. “Tacey” means “quiet”. I mean, seriously. I am not Tacey. I am The Amazing Catwoman. Tac.

I try to stand up anyway and end up losing my balance and falling backwards.

I try to stand up anyway and end up losing my balance and falling backwards.

I try to stand up anyway and end up losing my balance and falling backwards. “Whose crap is this on the altar, anyway?” I mutter as I fall. But when you’re in the Magnificent Fae Queen’s back garden, there are always demifae ready to catch you when you fall over, even if they pull the shit out of your hair.

“Fine,” Clutie says, and there’s a hiss in her breath. “Tac, then, and it might not be home but we think you ought to stay for a little while, just until you get your realm-walking feet back. We’ll take you to see Dyisi if you want, though our healers can repair most of the damage.” Her voice softens as they settle me back down onto the altar. “It’s leftovers, by the way, from the Queen’s handfasting. It was just last week.”

“Oh, great,” I groan. “All this and I have to put up with her married bliss on top of everything else?”

“Oh, do calm down, Tacey—Tac,” she corrects herself before I can correct her. “So you don’t like Faerie. Well, you’re going to stay here for a little while, so shut your gob and get used to it.” Wow, she’s as bad as my dad back in…. what was the name of that town again?

“I was somebody else,” I say quietly.

“Probably several somebodies,” Clutie replies as if I’ve done the universe some great harm. “Now settle yourself, ground and centre, and let us help you.”

What happened to me?

What happened to me?

What happened to me? I rise up on my toes, breathe in the (admittedly) sweet air of Faerie, and let my feet feel the altar, the altar to the Earth, the earth to the Water, the water to the Sky, the sky to the sun, the sun to the great initiator, Fire. The sun of Faerie is like nowhere else, and I bathe in it, breathe it in, let myself go calm. I was a savage on a beach. I was a queen in a castle. I was a teenage girl running away from home. And for just a moment, goddess knows how long it’ll last, this does feel like home. I just hope I don’t have to deal too much with her.H

Ironwood Hills, a beautifully creepy sim with open rez-rights, is a fantastic location for photography and just to explore. There’s loads to see, so go back often, and pass a few Lindens their way: it costs money to keep a sim open of course, and making it available to the public like this is such a beautiful gift.
Timeless Memories, fairly recently redesigned with a Mediterranean flair, is a gorgeous place both to visit and to photograph. I’m sure I’ll be back and grab more than just a few beach photos to scare TAC with sharks!
Skye Neist Point, part of the Studio Skye sims, is one of my favourite places to go when I need gorgeous landscapes and beautiful buildings. Studio Skye will also make you long to design your own forests and gardens with their meticulously and elegantly designed landscapes.

Other Locations: The suburban street was built in a sandbox, because I couldn’t find anything out in the Wide Second World that met my needs for this part of The Amazing Catwoman’s journey, and of course the Great Seelie Forest is part of Wicked Wylds, a private, invite-only roleplaying sim that invites good writers who want to create great characters.

Spiffy photos taken with the indispensible aid of my LumiPro. I never leave home without it!
