Why Haven’t You Been to Ostara’s Altar Yet?

Because I’m recovering from cataract surgery and under multiple deadlines at the same time, here’s a straight-up blog post from me. These photos were taken last weekend and should have been posted on Friday, but my eyes were one day out of surgery and I’ve not been looking at computers much because they are bright and full of colour! (My new cyber-eyes are amazing, btw.)

There’s so much to embrace about the coming of Spring.

There’s so much to embrace about the coming of Spring, and Ostara’s Altar has a lot of it! Gwyneth is frolicking in a field of flowers, my favourite flowers ever, the Ichi Fields from The Looking Glass. The ruins in the background are an amazing set from Delirium, called Ancient Temple. This is permanently on Awenia (well, as permanently as anything is on Awenia!), and I love the gothic arches and the atmosphere of the place. I put lime trees from The Little Branch all around the temple, but you can’t see them in this photograph: check the ones below!

But let’s get on to the important stuff! What is Gwyneth wearing?

But let’s get on to the important stuff! What is Gwyneth wearing? The dress is from Oubliette, and you can get it at Ostara’s Altar until 1pm SLT today, so hurry it up! It’s called Maia, and it comes in an amazing array of ombre colours, something for everyone, and the textures are fantastic! This hair is from Limerence, called Lamiya, and it’s still available at Lootbox. The amazing nails are from Dark Passions (natch!), and they’re the Odin’s Pride set, also available at Lootbox. The skin is Lumae‘s wonderful new Neoma Catwa applier, here on the Catwa Lona head, and the extra makeup is from Adored; it’s the Unicute Shadows, which you can pick up at The Secret Hideout. I went crazy at that event this time around. Unicorn theme. You guys know how I am! Eyes are the Gem Eyes from Amara Beauty. Gwyneth’s ears are these great new ones from Swallow, the Noldor Elf Ears. I love the jewellery on these ears; I just wish they took Omega appliers (hint, hint, Swallow!). 🙂 The boots are from Luas, the Skadi boots, which are at Lootbox. Trousers are a standby from The Muses, the Laced Leather Pant. Body as always is the Maitreya mesh body, though I’ve been experimenting with the Tonic body lately and may do some photos with that one soon.

Leaping!

Leaping! Gwyneth loves Spring, because as a natural Summer Queen, Spring is the beginning of her rise to power, which peaks at Midsummer. These poses are all from Grafica, by the way; they did some amazing dance poses a couple of years ago that I still use frequently. That said, I have been to Pose Fair, so be expecting some new ones in the weeks to come!

Happy!

This pose is from the Hela-Miyo Happy series, which is just a lot of fun. But look at the textures on that Oubliette dress. Yum, yum. I love it when things just look perfect and I don’t have to work too hard to make them perfect.

I’m not including a style card with this post, as everything is described under the photos, but I will tell you this: Ostara’s Altar is closing at 1pm SLT today, so get yourself down there and do some last-minute shopping, because some of these exclusives are discounted and you don’t want to miss that!

An Oracle in The Rose

Funny thing about the Great Faire: you never know what will happen to you when you cross into a new Realm. I found myself in The Rose, for example, blindfolded.

The Rose BLOG - 4

I held a pendulum in my hand; around my neck was another.

I held a pendulum in my hand; around my neck was another. And I knew, somehow, that I was up high. It might have had to do with the combination of bright sunlight I could feel and sense, and the wind that left me chilled despite what felt like direct sunlight.

When I toed my way to the edge of the platform I was on, I realised that there was a sheer drop all around. And me without my wings.

The Rose BLOG - 1

All hail the power of thought, for then I found myself in a darker place, and I could feel warm tiles beneath my barely-shod feet.

All hail the power of thought, for then I found myself in a darker place, and I could feel warm tiles beneath my feet.

I stilled and placed one hand on the necklace, then let the pendulum dangle between my fingers. I stilled myself, and as my breathing became quiet and regular, I felt, ever so slightly, the pendulum tug against my fingers.

The Rose BLOG - 2

I turned. What else could I do?

I turned. What else could I do? And I began to walk in the direction the pendulum seemed to want me to go.

The Rose BLOG - 3

I felt I’d climbed hundreds of steps when the pendulum finally stilled again.

I felt I’d climbed hundreds of steps when the pendulum finally stilled again.

And what did it have to show me? A formal garden, beautiful in its way, full of statues. It seemed to be all right then to take the blindfold off. Of course, I had no time to look at myself; I was too occupied with looking at The Rose itself.

The Rose BLOG - 7

There were roses, of course.

The Rose BLOG - 9

There were lions.

The Rose BLOG - 8

More than one lion, in fact.

The Rose BLOG - 11

A dome view that spanned several realms.

The Rose BLOG - 6

I might have mentioned the lions….

The Rose BLOG - 12

Oh, and rose petals. Rose petals everywhere.

The Rose BLOG - 13

Inside, scattered lights and archways. And more roses.

The Rose BLOG - 10

Did I mention the roses?

In the end, I was exhausted. All the steps, all the walking. At the end of my day, I still had no idea what the pendulum had been trying to show me, not until I had left the Realm for other spaces.

And then I looked back, and suddenly the answer seemed obvious.

The Rose BLOG - 5

It was The Rose, herself.

Of course! It was The Rose, herself. Why did I have to be blindfolded to discover her? Do we look more closely when we cannot see? How else can I experience the Realms differently as I spend the last few days of the Great Faire wandering the wondrous Fairelands?

On a Winter’s Night

Gwyneth Blog Header

Gwyneth:

It was snowing, and I had been walking for a long time, in high heels, but I wasn’t tired, not at all. I was also considerably underdressed for the weather. I was wearing this gorgeous chiffon-y thing, the sort of thing that that genius Evangeline Miles might have produced, and who knows? Maybe I snuck in to her Realm and bought a boatload of dresses without realising I’d done it. It’s funny: the We Love Roleplay Realm Faire is open now, and I know her designs are often featured there. I should take some of the Sidhe ladies and head over there: there are so many lovely things to be found at this wonderful Faire, and as we’re now in high Midwinter, there are sure to be special things there for Christmas.

Somewhere along the road, the snow began falling in earnest, so that I could barely see. Vaguely, I remember that the word some of my American friends use for this is white-out. That condition of not being able to see because of too fucking much snow. At some point, I recall being picked up, lifted almost as if by magic, and then there was a sensation of movement.

Winter's Night BLOG - 3

Soft fur brushed my cheek.

Soft fur brushed my cheek. As the snow began to fall more softly, I opened my eyes and recognised my own familiar Ballroom. I reached down to feel a strong leg beneath my hand. I felt haunches beneath my legs, and I knew I was being carried, somehow, by some benevolent Incarnation of the Forest God, that he had brought me home from wherever I’d been wandering.

As I slipped off the stag’s back, I realised my dress had changed colour.

As I slipped off the stag’s back, I realised my dress had changed colour. My wings felt different. Inside me, there was a cold wildness, and I thought of Desirie, the mad demifae queen, and her crimes, her betrayal of our folk and her alliance with the goblins, and worst of all, her rape of the Unseelie Lord Mornoth, whose soul I can see is kind and honourable. So many things ride on the decision I must make about her fate and how it is made. I thought maybe I had been wandering the Land, looking for answers to this question, all these questions. We need so much healing now. The stag’s incredible strength seemed to help me as I stood.

As I turned to thank him, I could feel a change once again in the dress.

As I turned to thank him, I could feel a change once again in the dress. How funny that my life, all the important things, seem so tied to my outward appearance. I know that as the Seelie Queen, I must be the embodiment of love and beauty, but it never ceases to amaze me that if I wake up one day feeling happy, my clothes, my hair, even my jewellery, reflect that. I giggled to see the holly berries round my brow, and the light cotton of my wings brushed against my shoulders as if to comfort me as I stood. The stag’s eyes, so warm and loving and deep, seemed to reflect the unwavering bond between me and the Land itself. I am the Land of course, and the Forest God is also the Land, but so much more.

Winter's Night BLOG - 4

How could I not, in the end, bow before this God of the Forest?

How could I not, in the end, bow before this God of the Forest? As he touched his nose to my lips, I felt a joining, both spiritual and sexual, a re-emergence of my connection with my Land, with my Folk, with the God Himself. He did not speak to me, but I knew, knew in my heart that he would help me on the long road ahead. I knew being Queen would be a challenge. But growing in to the role, learning all those ins and outs, all the intricacies of dealing with Sidhe so much older and more experienced than I, and knowing that I somehow have to bring them all together, lead them all into some understanding, some realisation that together we are stronger than we are apart.

Then, I took the path behind the Ballroom, to the Residence’s back door. I curled up on the couch, before the crackling fire, and fell asleep. When I woke, Nathaniel was curled up behind me, his head resting on my shoulder, and Bran had left a pot of steaming hot chocolate for us both to share when we awoke.

This dress is the Giselle Gown from Evie’s Closet. Once again, Evangeline Miles brings such subtlety and style to a simple dress. Thank you, Evie, for inspiring me. All four colours are available at this month’s We Love Roleplay event.

The poses are from the Le Poppycock La Paix gacha, which is at this months Liaison Collaborative. They are all beautiful and inspiring; not all of them come with the deer, but I chose the ones with the deer because of the story in this post.

All the hair featured in this post is from the Hairology event, which opened on the 10th of December and fills a much-needed space for us hair addicts!
