A Grand Sight

This Realm-hopping lark is becoming addictive. And it’s easy, as with most things, for me to lose focus and stop thinking about getting back to Awenia or finding HFM. Recently, I’ve started to wonder what makes it all work.

And, wouldn’t you know it, I found myself in a gallery room, the sort of thing HFM would definitely have commissioned somewhere, but we definitely weren’t in Awenia: this kind of display would be in one of the Library galleries, I’m sure of it. I definitely felt underdressed. Light filtered through the skylights and turned everything a little golden with its touch, and in the centre of the room, there was this device.

The Device

It seemed to have an internal energy source of some kind, and it made a whirring noise. I was immediately drawn to it, maybe because HFM collects astrological and astronomical devices, one of the hobbies she shares with her Consort, Nathaniel. I’m amazed with the workings of such things, and I always want to know more about them.

I knew I couldn’t stay long. But the device was just so fascinating. It moved so beautifully. I will have to look more about devices like this and see how they work alchemically.

Even though it wasn’t the biggest thing in the room, it commanded all my attention. There were so many beautiful things gathered around, a giant frog prince, a dragon with my now-favourite shape, the icosahedron, two beautiful kitsune, dragon lamps, two beautiful woman statues.

I felt the need and knew I had to leave, but before I ascended the stairs, I took a moment to enjoy the sunlight filtering down upon me. There is something magical about light, of course; many things, I should say.

But I needed to get back on track, and soon. Before I tried working my way closer to one of my two goals, I could not help but stop and take one long, last look at the beautiful device. I wonder how much of this world it powers or controls.
