Three Twisted Knots

Not all those who wander are lost.

I think we are all blind sometimes.

I think we are all blind sometimes. All of us, in an unfamiliar place sometimes, and what is there to feel but worry and despair?

Is there a correct way to stand?

Is there a correct way to stand? A right way to hold our hands? What do we do, when we’re blind, lost, feeling alone, feeling disconnected?

I guess all the questions just sort of mount up, don’t they?

I guess all the questions just sort of mount up, don’t they? Why am I here? What’s the point of all this? I’m sure you can think of some other ones. There’s the impotent asking, after the wondering about place and time and space. What is it we’re looking for?

Then, I guess, it’s about balance.

Then, I guess, it’s about balance. Or it becomes about balance. Not being able to see, even if the floor’s level, puts you off balance, assuming you are ordinarily sighted. We rely on our sight a lot, those of us who are sighted. I’ve been talking about it since I realised I couldn’t see anything, about four paragraphs up.  Balance, though, can make you feel a little more confident, even if you can’t engage that sense you’re relying on more than others.

And then sometimes about the loss of balance.

And then sometimes about the loss of balance. And then you get this balance – loss of balance cycle: you’re fine, then you’re off balance, then you suddenly regain it and all is fine again, then it goes, etc., etc., etcetera.

It’s wearing.

It’s wearing. And that’s an understatement. And no matter how comfortable we are in the dark, on balance or off balance, the constant displacement of it all, well. It gets to us eventually.

And eventually, we just tell the Universe we’re tired of its crap.

And eventually, we just tell the Universe we’re tired of its crap. Like the Universe is listening, right? But you never know, do you? So crying out to the Universe becomes if not a solution at least a catharsis. Or something like that.

“Fine, Universe!” we might say. “I’m tired of this unknowing! Tired of it! Just hit me with something, why don’t you?”

“Fine, Universe!” we might say. “I’m tired of this unknowing! Tired of it! Just hit me with something, why don’t you?”

And then we stand there, waiting.

And waiting.

And waiting.

And eventually we get tired of waiting, and we mutter a curse (not so under the breath) to the Universe, and we keep on with the balance and imbalance. And it never seems to end.
