From Friðrós:
So, Her Fae Majesty is on strike, apparently. She got her knickers all in a wad because The Author is having a tough time and decided to talk to everyone through Her Majesty. Which, I guess, is her prerogative. If you don’t stop to think about it too hard, she did create all of us here, and Awenia, and she writes our stories, except when someone comes in and has a guest write (and that doesn’t happen very often), so why shouldn’t she? I guess Gwyneth is just a little more… well. At the risk of her reading this and screaming at me later, she is the oldest of all of us. My story arc is new enough that I’m mostly just happy to be here, relatively consistently, and I haven’t petered out like some of the other interns, helpers, hired hands, and hangers-on that Gwyneth’s acquired over the years.

But let’s be honest. I’m clearly fulfilling the role of disgruntled teenager, in the fae sense (I’m not yet 300, after all). And all that costume and skin-hopping at Faire got me thinking: who is Friðrós, exactly? Like, I know who I am in that I’m here in this head, having my thoughts, etc., and I know where I’m from and what my heritage is, but who do I want to be?

The bare physicality of it all is—I’m Huldefólk, and I look like Huldefólk. Fair skinned, fair haired, freckled, hair that might be red or blonde depending on the day, light eyes… but I also have the luxury of glamour, so why not do as so many of my fae kin do and just decide who I want to be? I took my hair down so I could get some idea of how my face looks when it’s like that, and I added a little mascara.

Do I look more serious, more grown-up, without the freckles? I think I do. I mean, it certainly made me make a more serious face, didn’t it? But really, I’m still this pale Icelandic elf. Maybe I’ll experiment with some different hair colours.

Well, I won’t bore you with the particulars, but in the end I settled on this dark, unnatural red that I think any stylist would recognise if you came in and said, ‘I want to be goth chick red, please’. After that, I had to darken my brows, because the orangey blonde was really not working! Now, I guess I need to think about makeup.

Luckily for me, Her Fae Majesty practically has a subscription to Hexumbra makeup, and the fae dragons make a lot of delightfully goth makeup! I like how this Rose colour, from the Bex palette, reflects the highlights in my newly glamoured hair. But I think I need something on my lips as well, because it just seems wrong not to have them a similar dark colour.

This lipstick is number 2 in the Ruthann palette, which is also from Hexumbra, and ok, I’m starting to like the way I look now. Maybe a fringe? Or…. I know! My eyes are too light now. I should change that.

A darker eye, a fringe, and weirdly, bringing back my freckles on a whim got me exactly the look I’ve always been wanting! Or at least the look I want this week….

So, thanks to EnLight skins, Hexumbra Makeup, and Truth Hair, Not to mention Shimm eyes, here I am ready to take the lead, at least until Her Fae Majesty feels like stopping her temper tantrum. I figure that’ll be shortly after she sees this blog post, so expect her back in a few days, lovely readers!
